I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ted – while it definitely had its moments, I thought the film wore out its welcome long before the ending. But Seth MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed teddy bear was a box office sensation, raking in a huge sum of money for Universal, and a sequel was inevitable. Today, we got our first look at that sequel, which is hitting theaters this summer.
Thanks to Universal Pictures for the Ted 2 trailer.
Much like the marketing materials for the original film, there are some genuinely funny moments here. I always enjoy watching Mark Wahlberg play comedic roles, and he has an undeniable chemistry with MacFarlane – well, with MacFarlane’s voice, anyway. Amanda Seyfried should also be a nice addition this time around, as well, and I can’t wait to see more interaction between Ted and Morgan Freeman.
But the trailer isn’t without its share of problems, either. The fertility clinic sequence feels a bit overcooked, and the idea of Ted garnering sympathy from a black judge by singing classic soul songs feels like it belong in an Adam Sandler movie – it just isn’t funny.
So will the sequel suffer from the same problems that plagued the first film? We’ll find out when Ted 2 hits theaters on June 26.
