“Skyrim” sells 3.5 million copies in first 48 hours.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been on shelves for less than a week, and is already being considered a runaway success by Bethesda and its parent company, ZeniMax Media.  More than 3.5 million copies were sold during the first 48 hours of release, and the studio has shipped more than 7 million copies worldwide.  ZeniMax expects to earn upwards of $450 million from the initial launch shipment, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned from previous Bethesda titles, it’s the fact that their games will continue to sell long after the launch date.

“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
