PlayStation’s first original series, Powers, is certainly stacking the deck in their favor, announcing a slew of casting additions over the past few days, including heavy hitters like Eddie Izzard and Sharlto Copley. Based on the comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the series will follow two homicide detectives who specialize in cases involving superhuman powers.
Copley will portray one of those detectives, Christian Walker, a former Power himself whose abilities were lost during a scuffle with another superhuman, while Susan Heyward plays his partner, Deena Pilgrim. Forbes has been cast as Retro Girl, which TV Line describes as “the undisputed super star of the Powers community… an icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen, her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand.”
Deadline reports that Izzard has been cast as Wolfe, “a top-level Power who has spent the last two decades incarcerated in the Shaft, his terrible abilities kept in check through a brutal regimen of surgical procedures.” He was also once Walker’s mentor, so there’s some pre-existing history between his character and Copley’s.
David Slade is directing the first two episodes of Powers, which will debut later this year on Sony’s PlayStation Network. Stay tuned for more.
