After sending the internet into a frenzy last weekend by unveiling the first look at Jared Leto as The Joker, David Ayer has just released the first official photo of the Suicide Squad cast.
UPDATE: Will Smith has also posted a photo of himself in full Deadshot regalia – including the enhanced eye. See the bottom of this post.
ORIGINAL: Much like the reveal of The Joker, Ayer dropped the official Suicide Squad cast photo via his Twitter feed.
Alright, let’s do the rundown, from left to right: Adam Beach (his role has yet to be confirmed), Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and that’s Karen Fukuhara as Katana, taking a knee in the front of the group.
Noticeably absent from this photo is Viola Davis, who plays the role of Amanda Waller – think of her like the DC Universe’s version of Nick Fury. She’ll be the one pulling the strings behind the scenes, so even though she isn’t featured here, we still expect her role to be fairly significant.
As the first live-action version of Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie’s costume seems to have a similar aesthetic as The Joker. Will Smith also looks significantly better than those terrible leaked set photos – but what’s the deal with Deadshot not having the cybernetic eye? Perhaps he’ll acquire it over the course of the film?
The rest of the costumes look… okay, I guess, although I’m digging the look of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc. It reminds me quite a bit of his portrayal in the Arkham Asylum videogame series. That being said, I’m still a long way from being sold on this movie. But Ayer and company have plenty of time to show us what they can do between now and the film’s release date – in fact we expect this one to have a pretty big presence during Comic Con.
Suicide Squad will be hitting theaters on August 5, 2016.
And as promised, here’s the photo of Will Smith in the complete Deadshot costume, courtesy of his Facebook page.
