The cast of Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot has been locked in for a few weeks now, with one glaring exception: there was no villain for the newly assembled team to square off against. That problem was rectified today, with Variety reporting that Toby Kebbell has been offered the role of Doctor Doom, a deal which is expected to close quickly.
Kebbell has been acting for the past decade, and has enjoyed supporting roles in a number of films, including War Horse, The Counselor, and Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla. A starring role in Fantastic Four could turn out to be a major breakthrough, exposing him to a much broader audience and opening up plenty of new opportunities. It’s also reasonable to assume that he would return for the sequel, which has already been announced for 2017.
Fantastic Four is scheduled to begin shooting later this month, and will hit theaters on June 19, 2015.
