Seeing the first footage from Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow was definitely one of the highlights of San Diego Comic Con for me, and now some five months later, that same footage is being made available for the general public. The film follows an officer (Tom Cruise) who dies during an alien invasion, only to find himself reborn again on the same day, endlessly repeating the same cycle and trying to find a way to change the outcome of the events. Check it out.
I absolutely love this trailer, and while the “Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers” premise is certainly accurate, I have a feeling there are plenty of surprises in store. Also, how badass does Emily Blunt look in this flick?
Edge of Tomorrow hits theaters on June 6, 2014.
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
