With the success of Legendary’s excellent Godzilla reboot, a sequel was all but guaranteed, and yesterday at Comic-Con the studio made it official. Director Gareth Edwards appeared in a pre-recorded video segment, and stated that as soon as he was finished shooting “a little sci-fi film,” he would be moving on to another Godzilla project. Edwards also listed the names of some of the other monsters he would be bringing to the big screen, all of which were censored.
Legendary head Thomas Tull then rolled some “classified footage” to give the audience an idea of “what we are thinking about for the sequel.” The clip showcased massive amounts of destruction from locations all over the world, followed by the text: “There is still one secret that remains hidden… There are others.”
The video then showed three classic monsters from the Godzilla universe: Mothra, Rhodan and Ghidorah. Tull mentioned that he couldn’t guarantee these creatures for the sequel (probably due to licensing issues that will need to be ironed out), but that the studio was very interested in exploring them.
Godzilla 2 currently has no release date.
