Avengers Age of Ultron already features a huge cast of characters, but it looks like we can add two more names to the massive roster: during an interview with The Telegraph, Idris Elba revealed that he had recently completed scenes for the movie alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Previous reports had indicated that Hiddleston’s villainous Loki would not be in the film at all, but if Elba’s telling the truth, he may have just spoiled a major surprise. Here’s the excerpt:
“Ironically, yesterday I had to…” Elba chuckles. He’s not meant to talk about this, but he clearly enjoys doing things he’s not meant to do. “I’m in Avengers,” he reveals. He means that his Thor character, deity-cum-sentry Heimdall, appears in Age of Ultron, the second instalment of the superhero ensemble franchise. “And I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth [who plays Thor]and Tom Hiddleston [Loki], and they’re like, [whispers]– ‘Aren’t you [meant to be]in Ibiza?’ ” That bassy chuckle again, followed by a frown. Elba came straight to Ibiza party-time from a mythical Norse god/Marvel universe that has made billions at the global box office. His head is all over the place. “That’s why I was p—– about my set yesterday. I really just wasn’t there. I was annoyed.”
Elba also reveals that he went straight from the set of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom to complete reshoots on Thor: The Dark World, and called it a “torturous” experience. You can read more of Elba’s account in the full piece from The Telegraph.
As far as Age of Ultron is concerned, this is the first hint we’ve seen that any of the Asgardian characters would be featured. It’s possible that Elba and Hiddleston are featured in another post-credits “stinger” scene that have become Marvel’s custom, but then again, both characters could play a much larger role, too. Either way, Marvel can’t be thrilled with this news leaking out.
