David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is adding yet another member of the Batman mythology with the casting of Thor: The Dark World and Lost alumni Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as the monstrous Killer Croc. Warner Bros. haven’t officially confirmed the casting, but The Wrap broke the exclusive news and are normally extremely reliable with their sources.
Killer Croc has been portrayed numerous ways in Batman’s history in the comic and animated mediums, but generally one thing remains consistent: he’s a big, monstrous, reptilian-like behemoth. In some incarnations Croc is intelligent, but in others (like Batman: The Animated Series) he’s a moronic dolt. More recent versions, like Beware the Batman, have portrayed Croc as more of strategist, and have changed up his vocal personality by giving him a creole accent, courtesy of a Cajun background.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje is best known to fanboys from his Dark Elf role in Thor: The Dark World or, going back a bit further, Mr. Eko on J.J. Abrams’ cult smash hit TV show Lost. No word on whether Akinnuoye-Agbaje is going to be wearing prosthetics, providing mo-cap, voice-over work or all of the above to bring Killer Croc to life for Suicide Squad.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje will join the already huge and growing cast of impressive names attached to Suicide Squad, including Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo and Jared Leto as The Joker.
