Lady Gaga to Star in American Horror Story Season 5

Notify Alejandro and call the paparazzi, because Lady Gaga has been tapped to be the central star in American Horror Story‘s fifth season, expected to air this fall on FX. TVLine is reporting that the upcoming installment will be called American Horror Story: Hotel, and although this is not confirmed by the network at this time, it does seem to be confirmed by Gaga herself.

The word from Gaga comes via this video and hashtag posted to her Twitter account:

Gaga is having a big week, with this announcement following a very well-received tribute to The Sound of Music at the 2015 Oscars. Although no details are revealed about the role Gaga will play, the casting fits with showrunner Ryan Murphy’s apparent obsession with larger than life female pop stars, as evidenced by the season-long Stevie Nicks tribute during American Horror Story: Coven.

Gaga’s casting also brings a dose of star power to what will most likely be the first season without America Horror Story MVP Jessica Lange. The pop singer doesn’t have that long of a resume prior to this casting, having been seen most recently in a supporting role in Machete Kills and brief cameo as a diner waitress in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Lady Gaga is an enormously talented musician (more so than her actual music showcases) so it will interesting to see how she will transition into acting with a much more substantial role than she’s had as of yet. FX Networks CEO John Landgraf has mentioned that the show’s fifth season would be “very different” and this casting certainly has our interest peaked on just how different things will actually turn out.
