Rumor: First Details on Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad

Earlier this week, Suicide Squad director David Ayer was teasing a big reveal involving Jared Leto. While fans eagerly awaited the first photos of Leto in character as The Joker, all they got was a few teases: a photo of his ponytail being cut off, and another photo of the actor clean-shaven, and with a new, shorter hairstyle. We may have to wait awhile before we get the first glimpse of Leto in costume, but a new report has some information on the approach Leto will bring to The Joker.

According to Hollywood Life, who credits an “inside source” with this information, Leto is “confident” that his portrayal of the villain will be soemthing that “fans will love.” Here’s a bit more:

“Jared wants to make sure his Joker is not only something the fans will love, but he doesn’t want to step on the toes of Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger. He wants to make the character completely his own. He knows that this role may be his most difficult ever, but he is confident that he will make his version of the Joker the best. This Joker will be more cerebral and comedic than what we have seen before, nobody should expect a copycat version. It’s going to be awesome!”

Jared Leto posted this photo from London.

Batman News brought this to our attention, and they point out that while Hollywood Life may be owned by the same company that owns Variety, that doesn’t necessaarily make them a reputable source for information like this. And it’s not like any of this is terribly specific – in fact, it all seems like information we could’ve guessed, without the benefit of an “inside source.”

The cast of Suicide Squad also includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
