'Terminator: Genesis' reportedly wants Jason Clarke as John Conner.

Rebooting the Terminator franchise has proved to be something of a difficult task. Justin Lin was attached as director for awhile before departing the project, and now it looks like Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor is set to helm. Rumors indicate that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be reprising his iconic role, and Emilia Clarke (who worked with Taylor on Game of Thrones) is the frontrunner to portray Sarah Conner, with Brie Larson also in contention.

Deadline is now reporting that Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke has entered talks to take over the role of John Conner, an interesting choice when you consider that the 44-year-old actor would be playing son to an actress in her mid 20s. Of course, time travel has always been a key factor in the Terminator films, so we could be talking about an older version of the character crossing paths with his mother’s younger counterpart.

Terminator: Genesis begins shooting early next year for a July 1, 2015 release date.
