Warner Bros. TV is on a roll this week with the announcement that the previously untitled Flash/Arrow spinoff, has officially been named DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Not only that, but the project has been given a full series order from The CW. The superhero team-up show got the pickup just a day after Supergirl was given a series order over at CBS.
Here’s the official synopsis of the show:
When heroes alone are not enough … the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?
THR broke the story and also reports that the network picked up the show “sight unseen” and will forgo the pilot stage. The outlet went on to say that The CW has put together a specially-shot trailer to be unveiled at the network’s upfronts presentation.
The officially announced cast, thus far, consists of the following actors and the characters they are portraying: Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/the Atom, Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heatwave) and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein), Ciara Renee (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), and Arrow’s Caity Lotz in a still unspecified role.
The title DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is a little clunky, but certainly evokes the old vintage comic team-up issues. The synopsis of the show itself is actually quite interesting and the fact that time travel is involved, opens up all kinds of crazy timeline possibilities. Doctor Who fans will also certainly giggle at Arthur Darvill playing a “time travelling rogue.”
No episode counts or air dates have been announced for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but we’ll keep you updated on any breaking news.
