The Divergent Series Insurgent Teaser Trailer: The World Will Never Be the Same

The Divergent Series: Insurgent has gotten its first teaser trailer treatment for the follow-up to the 2014 hit Divergent, starring Shailene Woodley. Tris is back with a new haircut, lots of special effects and it’s all kinds of dark and action packed. Check it out at the embed below:

Well, alrighty. Having only seen the first film and reading only the first book, I have no idea what’s going on here. Why is the newly shorn Tris’s mom (played by Naomi Judd) still alive after the events of the first film? What is this crazy building that looks like the poster for Cabin in the Woods? This has to be a dream sequence right? One would assume, but the image is even used in the teaser poster released today as well. Here it is below:

Looks like there could be some Matrix-y stuff going on in this film. There wasn’t anything quite like this in Divergent, with the exception of the faction tests occasionally used throughout the film. Maybe there’s some answers in the official synopsis:

SYNOPSIS:
THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

Nope, not really. Color me intrigued. I hadn’t gotten around to reading the Insurgent book, but after viewing that trailer I kinda have to go ahead and do it if I want to find out what’s going on here, right? Audiences will get their answers when The Divergent Series: Insurgent gets released on March 20, 2015.
