HBO Confirms Vaughn For 'True Detective' Season 2, First Details Revealed

HBO has finally dropped some of the secrecy surrounding True Detective Season 2 with the official confirmation that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star. Not only that, but the recent rumors that The Fast and The Furious helmer Justin Lin would direct have been proven true as the premium cable network has also announced he will direct the first two episodes of the season.

Adding to the first confirmed juicy details, we also get the following character descriptions in the press release for Farrell and Vaughn’s roles:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

They definitely aren’t going to be the detective partner duo like McConaughey and Harrelson in Season 1. Will the actors be paired in some other less conventional way? Looks that way according to the official logline in the release:

Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Series creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto returns to scripting duties and filming begins this fall in California. True Detective Season 2 will air on HBO, most likely in the summer of 2015.
