Jason Momoa Confirms Four-Picture Deal for Aquaman Role

The casting of Jason Momoa as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry. Everyone knew that Momoa had been cast, and Momoa knew that everyone knew, yet he continued to deny involvement whenever the subject was brought up. When Warner Bros. announced their huge slate of DC Comics films, they confirmed that Momoa would headline an Aquaman film, which finally, mercifully, opens the door for Momoa to actually discuss the role.

Perhaps in an effort to make up for months and months of keeping his mouth shut, Momoa opened up quite a bit during an appearance at the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil. The DCU Movie Page covered the Q&A session on their Twitter feed, and we’ve got some of the more pertinent information below. First things first, Momoa confirmed that he signed a four-picture deal with the studio.

While Momoa didn’t reveal which films he would be appearing in, he didn’t really need to. We know Aquaman will be showing up in Batman v Superman, and we know that he’s getting a solo film in 2018, as well. Throw in the two-part Justice League film (releasing 2017 and 2019), and that satisfies the terms of his deal.

While the Aquaman character has been the butt of plenty of jokes over the years, he was reinvented with the launch of DC’s New 52 line, and according to Momoa, the big screen incarnation will not be someone to take lightly.

Momoa apparently has a director in mind for the standalone Aquaman film, but chances seem pretty slim.

And Momoa wants Zack Snyder, which is a big fan of the director, to direct Aquaman movie. more to come… #CCPX

Not a bad choice, to be sure, but Snyder has already signed on for both Justice League flicks, so he might be a little busy for awhile. Momoa should probably start looking at other options.

So there you have it. Jason Momoa has finally spoken up about being Aquaman. Keep an eye out for his first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, releasing on March 25, 2016.
