Chadwick Boseman apparently has an affinity for cultural icons – after portraying legendary baseball star Jackie Robinson in last year’s excellent 42, Boseman is stepping into the shoes of soul icon James Brown for the biopic Get On Up, directed by Tate Taylor (The Help). The film will follow Brown’s journey from poverty to global phenomenon, and features a stellar supporting cast that includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Dan Aykroyd.
Apple debuted the first trailer, which you can view below (or click here for the HD version).
Get On Up is scheduled to open on August 1.
