Rise of the Planet of the Apes is arguably the biggest surprise hit of this year, opening to rave reviews and grossing more than $175 million at the US box office. So it should come as little surprise that Fox is moving forward with plans for another installment. Deadline reports that motion-capture actor Andy Serkis, who helped bring Ceasar to life in the film, has signed a deal for “multiple future installments.” Director Rupert Wyatt is scheduled to return, as are screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who had stated that they envisioned Rise as the first of a trilogy.
I was a big fan of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and it was mostly because of the brilliant work by Serkis. Reuniting him with the same creative team behind the first film bodes well for a sequel that is every bit as entertaining and enjoyable as the first installment.
