We still don’t know much about Tomorrowland, two-time Oscar winner Brad Bird’s science fiction mystery film that stars George Clooney as “a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment” who teams up with “a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity” for a trip to discover a place that exists somewhere between space and time. During a presentation at New York Comic-Con, fans were given their first look at footage from the film, which you can see below in the Tomorrowland teaser trailer. It still doesn’t say much, but it’s more than what we started with.
First things first, let’s give credit to the marketing team for showing us just enough to spark our interest, and nothing else. We’re still about seven months from the film’s release date, and as tightly guarded as Tomorrowland‘s plot has been, we aren’t likely to learn many details between now and then.
But the little bit of information we’re given here is certainly enough to start some conversation. And that also puts some of the quotes from the recent EW article in context, including this one from screenwriter Damon Lindelof:
“What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you’re a Muggle. Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel.”
That’s certainly worth some pondering. Tomorrowland is scheduled for release on May 22, 2015.
