'Vikings' Season 3 Trailer: That is How We Win, That is How We Die

History’s flagship show Vikings is back for its third season in just a few short weeks, and fans will feel their anticipation grow even higher with the release of the first full trailer.

There are lots things to dissect, so let’s jump right into the footage.

Death bodes heavy in the vibe of this trailer, and it wouldn’t be a total shock to lose one of the core cast members this year as Vikings reaches a critical third season, a time where many shows stereotypically start to decline in quality.

Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and his crew are indeed heading to Paris, as revealed in our Comic-Con 2014 interview and it looks like they have their work cut out for them. Ragnar also appears to be developing a schism between himself and his son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) even as his relationship with Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) seems to be on the mend, much to Aslaug’s (Alyssa Sutherland) dismay. The usual internal power stuggles are also referenced in the trailer, but I have a hard time believing either Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) or Rollo (Clive Standen) will be making yet another play at usurping Ragnar.

Vikings continues to maintain one of the most impressive cinematic scopes on current television. The shot of Bjorn looking down at the ice river and any of the numerous battles shots in the trailer look fit for any big screen film. The feat is even more impressive knowing the show isn’t on any of the major network or cable outlets.

Vikings returns for Season 3 on Thursday, February 19th, only on History.
