That didn’t take long. We were just reporting on Michelle MacLaren leaving Wonder Woman and two days later Warner Bros has her replacement: Patty Jenkins. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because she was originally signed on to direct Thor: The Dark World for Marvel Studios before leaving the project.
Warner Bros. seems determined to stick with a female talent to helm the first big screen adventure of the iconic Amazonian warrier from Themyscira. Gal Gadot is signed to star as Wonder Woman in the film that is slated for a 2017 release, following her appearance in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Interesting to note that MacLaren’s departure from Wonder Woman was cited as “creative differences,” which is also the same reason given when Jenkins left Thor: The Dark World. She would get a little bit of revenge on Marvel, if she is able to direct a successful launch of Wonder Woman at Marvel’s bitter rival DC.
Jenkins is probably best known for her critically acclaimed award winner Monster, starring Charlize Theron, but has struggled to find a worthy project since that film. Most notably since, she directed the pilot of the critically acclaimed AMC drama The Killing.
