The Griswolds are back for a new generation, led by Ed Helms as Rusty Griswold, who is taking over the Vacation reigns from his legendary father Clark W. Griswold (Chevy Chase) in the first red band trailer for the upcoming film. You can check out the Vacation red band trailer below:
I must admit that I’m an unabashed Vacation franchise fan, and the films have been a staple in my family since I was a kid. I had a lot of apprehension about this project, but I must say that this trailer is fairly clever and funny, while still hitting a lot of the right notes of the original National Lampoon’s Vacation films.
I particularly enjoyed the fourth wall-breaking moment from Rusty about whether the audience needs to have seen the previous films. The “attractive woman in a red sports car” bit from the original film was brought back in a hilarious way at the end of the trailer as well. I hope they’re not blowing all the good jokes here to sell the movie, but if early buzz from CinemaCon is any indication, there might be quite few more laughs in store.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Anxious for some family bonding time, Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms), the grown son of Clark and Ellen Griswold, takes his wife and sons on a cross-country road trip to “America’s favorite family fun park,” Walley World.
Vacation stars Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, and Chris Hemsworth, with Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprising their roles from the original film. Vacation hits theaters this summer on July 29.
