The internet has been ablaze with memes, hashtags and speculation regarding who will take over the reigns from the unforgettable duo of McConaughey and Harrelson for Season Two of True Detective. Creator Nic Pizzolatto has revealed that three lead actors just might be given that job instead of two.
“Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser-known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did in season one… The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with each of them. We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest within the coming month.”
Previously Pizzolatto has described Season Two as dealing with “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system” and it’s interesting to see that they are looking at less well-known areas of California for the new season’s aesthetic.
Recently Jessica Chastain was rumored to have been offered a role that she turned down, and persistent rumors that Brad Pitt was offered a lead role have been gaining traction as well. It’s unclear if all three leads will be the “detectives” of the show title, or if it would be similar to Michelle Monaghan being considered as a lead role in Season One.
