The last of Peter Jackson’s epic Tolkien franchise The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters this December and Warner Bros. Pictures has just released the first official full length trailer for the epic film. Check it out via the embed below.

The trailer is appropriately enormous in scale and certainly is attempting to rival the insanely sweeping finale in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The trailer also gives some teases of the extra content not from the original book including a very intriguing scene featuring Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Saruman (Christopher Lee), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and the Lord of the Rings himself: Sauron. Looks like we might see the seeds of Saruman and Sauron’s alliance in the Lord of the Rings trilogy planted even further in this film.

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.
Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice.
