Production on Terminator: Genesis is officially underway, and The Daily Mail managed to get their hands on some photos from the New Orleans set, which include our first look at Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to one of his most memorable roles. In the photos below, you can see Schwarzenegger in the background of a scene where Sarah Conner (Emilia Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) are confronted by Sarah’s son, John (Jason Clarke).
Schwarzenegger has certainly aged since his last appearance as the character, but in recent interviews he revealed that the script would address this issue. “The way that the character is written, it’s a machine underneath,” he explained. “It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.”
Jason Clarke’s appearance in the scene above seems to indicate that his character will also be getting involved in the time-travel aspect of the film, as Terminator lore says that Reese died long before John became an adult. It’ll be interesting to see if the writers will be able to manage so many threads and keep everything cohesive.
Terminator: Genesis is currently scheduled for release on July 1, 2015.
