Day 2 of Star Wars Celebration is underway, and the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront has released the first highly anticipated trailer for the massive game, which is coming this fall to PC, PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
There’s a tons of material to discuss, so let’s get right to the Star Wars Battlefront trailer:
Take my money now. Please. The game takes place during the Star Wars Original Trilogy time setting and the trailer focuses mostly on the Battle of Endor. I love the realistic feel of the footage shown, which gives the game a sense of legitimacy. The camera angles and the shouts from the soldiers echoing through the woods gave everything a really cool vibe. We also get looks at what appears to be the Battle of Hoth, as well as the newly announced Battle of Jakku.
The Battle of Jakku will be released as free DLC to people who purchase the game on December 8th, but will be available a week early for those that pre-order Star Wars: Battlefront. The free DLC will take place on the newly-announced desert world of Jakku, one year after the events of the Return of the Jedi and will bridge the gap between that film and the footage we saw in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens second teaser trailer.
Darth Vader and Boba Fett have also been confirmed as playable characters in the Star Wars: Battlefront, along with the Millennium Falcon as a usable vehicle. That’s extremely exciting news, although the confirmation that the game will NOT have space battles was a bit of a disappointment. The developers also revealed the game will not have a campaign mode, but will have split screen and online co-op, that will be based around short missions. You can play those missions as either first-person or third-person.
We’d also like to make it clear that the trailer is not actually a gameplay trailer, but rather in-game engine footage – meaning what was displayed was to show off capabilities of the game, not exactly how it will look on your PS4 or Xbox One.
