Spoiler: Major 'Game of Thrones' Characters Out For Season 5.

It was bound to happen with its sprawling cast of characters, but for the first time on Game of Thrones, two major characters will sit out the entire season. No, the characters aren’t dead or going off to handle things offscreen- they simply won’t be a part of the story lines involved in the upcoming season. Ready to find out who they are? Be warned: Spoilers below…

Fan favorites Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) and the one-word wonder Hodor (Kristian Nairn) will not appear in the upcoming season of the HBO’s hit series. The news comes from an interview with Nairn on Australia 7.30 where he says the actors were given a “year’s hiatus.” Check out the transcript:

MONIQUE SCHAFTER: Fans around the world are hungry for the next series of Game of Thrones, but they’ll have to be patient.

KRISTIAN NAIRN: We’re not actually in Season 5, by the way. We have a season off. We have a year’s hiatus.

MONIQUE SCHAFTER: Really?

KRISTIAN NAIRN: Solely because, I imagine, our storyline is up to the end of the books. So I get a year off now to do Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world.

It’s important to note that neither HBO or Hempstead-Wright have made any such announcement, but since these characters were all just fine the last time we saw them in Season 4, it makes sense that with the massive amount of plots to juggle, Hodor and Bran are on hold for a bit.

Does this disappoint you guys? Or are you pleased that Season 5 of Game of Thrones is narrowing it’s focus, so to speak?
