Ryan Phillippe in Talks for Marvel Netflix Series

Marvel’s partnership with Netflix is already paying off in a big way. Daredevil was a massive success, generating critical acclaim and a renewal for a second season, while AKA Jessica Jones is currently shooting and Luke Cage should be in production soon. But there’s still no word on Iron Fist… or is there?

During an interview on the Howard Stern Show this morning, Ryan Phillippe mentioned that Marvel had reached out about getting together with the actor. Here’s the quote:

“Marvel is interested in talking about Netflix, a series possibly. The Daredevil series is great, right?”

The immediate assumption is that Phillippe would portray the lead role of Danny Rand in Iron Fist, and that definitely sounds like a good fit. He’s in tremendous shape, and he definitely has enough charisma to headline a series. But it’s equally possible that he could be up for a supporting role, or maybe even a villain. We’ve seen his dark side in plenty of flicks, and he’s a pretty compelling choice for a bad guy.

As soon as the fanbase began speculating, Phillippe tried to clarify his comments via his Twitter feed:

I have no real marvel news other than an upcoming meeting. sorry to disappoint fans thought there was more to it. there is no story there.😊

Sounds like this could be a little bit of damage control. Or maybe there really isn’t a story here – but we have to wonder about that meeting, don’t we? Perhaps Phillippe has “no real news” because there’s no offer on the table yet?

We’ll keep you posted if we learn anything else.
