The internet practically imploded when Warner Bros. announced that Zombieland star Jesse Eisenberg had been cast in the role of Lex Luthor for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. While there were plenty of detractors, there also existed a very vocal contingency of fans who thought that Eisenberg’s acclaimed performance in The Social Network could serve as an excellent foundation to build upon. And according to a new report, that may not be far from the truth.
Citing an anonymous but well-placed source, Batman News purports to have the scoop on Eisenberg’s new look, and some news on the interior of LexCorp:
LexCorp scenes were filmed over the past two days and a source tells Batman News that Eisenberg has “a lot of hair”. It’s not Eisenberg’s typical curly look — it’s a bit longer, kind of loose and wavy, and it’s dirty blonde. Eisenberg’s Luthor has spastic mannerisms, like a 20-something guy that pounds energy drinks all day. I’m told that the scenes shot take place towards the beginning of the movie… so maybe there’s still a chance that Lex Luthor could show up bald by the end? We’ll have to wait and see.
Speaking of LexCorp, we’ve seen a lot of the outside, but I have some info on the inside as well. I’ve been told it’s “f***ing awesome”. There’s a basketball court in the lobby with a giant 30 foot neon LexCorp industries sign.
Comic Book Movie also points to this post on the IMDB message boards, which seems to corroborate the news above:
Lex has a super modern-hip Facebook/Google style office with a basketball court, pinball tables, etc. Everyone looks ultra douchey and has bowties and blazers, etc. Lex is introduced in which he takes a basketball shot, and in the same motion, after draining the shot, turns around and shakes a senator’s (?) hand, who is there to greet him. He looks like Kurt Cobain, and is a complete douche.
And that senator? Batman News has it on good authority that Holly Hunter’s role in the film, which has been kept under wraps, is that of a powerful US senator.
Of course, none of this information has been confirmed by the studio, but it certainly sounds plausible. In an age where Google and Facebook are two of the biggest companies in the world, it makes sense to modernize Lex and update his image. The first photos of Eisenberg in character – which likely won’t surface until after Comic-Con next month – should prove to be mighty interesting.
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice will open on May 6, 2016.
