Masters of Sex was a huge critical hit last year for Showtime, and the superb show returns next month for its sophomore season. With Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan in the leading roles, the series has an ultra-hip retro Mad Men-vibe to its fascinating portrayal of the real life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson.
Season One was some of the best television of 2013 for its sometimes funny, sometimes awkward, but always unflinching view of the intense sexual conservatism of that era. Masters of Sex also ended up on many Top 10 lists last year, including our own, as heard on the Drinks & Discourse Podcast.
