After a poorly received outing in last year’s 47 Ronin, Keanu Reeves is leaving the epic fantasy genre in the rearview mirror and opting for the straightforward action route with John Wick, which finds a retired hitman getting back into the game after a ruthless punk (Alfie Allen) decides to kill his dog and steal his car.
No, I’m not making this up. In fact, the dog was actually a gift from John Wick’s dying wife, so you know he’s extra pissed about this particular turn of events. Check out the new John Wick trailer below.
As ridiculous as the premise might be, this looks like a good bit of fun. The film obviously isn’t taking itself very seriously, and as long as it remains aware of how silly its tone is, it could turn out to be pretty enjoyable. With a supporting cast that includes Ian McShane, Willem Dafoe, Michael Nyqvist and Adrianne Palicki, John Wick hits theaters on October 24.
From the producer of CLASH OF THE TITANS and THE TOWN comes a tale of adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption. When a retired hit man is forced back into action by a sadistic young thug, he hunts down his adversaries with the skill and ruthlessness that made him an underworld legend.
