Yesterday, word broke that Patrick Stewart might be appearing alongside Hugh Jackman in the sequel to The Wolverine, currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2017. Today, during the press junket for the upcoming release of Chappie, Jackman weighed in on those rumors.
JoBlo was on hand for today’s junket in New York City, and asked Jackman point blank about Stewart’s comments. Here’s his response:
“I’m not going to deny it. I’ve learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I’m terrible. But, I’ve always seen it as a really important relationship, and we started with that and I think it’s a really important one. I think it would be really great to see it in the Wolverine movie, because we haven’t really explored it in the standalone Wolverine movies. So it’s not not not not not going to happen.”
That’s not exactly an affirmative answer, but it’s also far from a denial, either. Sounds like there could definitely be some truth to this one, but we’ll likely be waiting awhile before we learn anything solid.
Jackman also gave his thoughts on the idea of Wolverine joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now that the door has been opened thanks to the recent Spider-Man news. Geek.com reports that Jackman has this to say:
“There’s so many forces at play there, man, beyond what anyone would want. The thing I’ve always loved about the comic-book world is how the fun thing was how a writer of a comic book could just pull all these characters together and what became a Friday-night discussion of ‘it would be cool to see Batman fight Wolverine’ and bang, Monday morning they’re working on it, you know. But that’s an idealized world.”
It’s probably far too much to hope that we could eventually see Wolverine fighting alongside the Avengers. But it’s definitely a nice thought, right?
The Wolverine 2 will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
