Hail Caesar Trailer: The Coens Take Aim at Film's Golden Age

After exploring the frontier in Western remake True Grit and providing an intimate look at the folk music scene in Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar-winning directors Joel and Ethan Coen are returning to bigger, broader comedy, setting their sights on the Golden Age of Hollywood for Hail, Caesar! Starring Josh Brolin as a studio fixer who must contend with the kidnapping of his biggest star (George Clooney) and a host of other problems, the film boasts a huge ensemble that also features Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Channing Tatum.

Working Title dropped the first Hail Caesar trailer on their YouTube channel. Check it out below.

The subject matter seems like a perfect fit for the Coens, particularly when considering how absurd that part of Hollywood’s history seems by today’s standards. The tone of this trailer reminds me a little bit of Burn After Reading, which also featured a huge cast engaging in ridiculous behavior – but I’m guessing this one might be met with a more positive audience reaction.

Hail, Caesar! will open on February 5, 2016.

Four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo) write and direct HAIL, CAESAR!, an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill and Frances McDormand, Hail, Caesar! follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.

The comedy is produced by the Coen brothers under their Mike Zoss Productions banner alongside Working Title Films’ Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.
