Franz Drameh Cast as Jay Jackson in Arrow/Flash Spinoff

Actor Franz Drameh has joined the cast of the Untitled DC Project as Jay Jackson in the Arrow/Flash spinoff coming to the CW. With the alliteration of the name, the character name certainly sounds very DC Comics, but there doesn’t seem to be any major character associated with that name in their history.  So who exactly is Drameh playing?

Here’s the official character description from Warner Bros TV:

“Jay Jackson, a former high school athlete, whose pro-career was derailed by injury.  Now making ends meets as an auto mechanic, Jay will come to have a surprising affiliation to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew.”

Hmm, well that description sounds almost like a word for word description of Victor Stone aka Cyborg. Perhaps they’re pulling some of their classic misdirection (that they did so well on The Flash & Arrow) and throwing people off the trail with the character’s name.

So who is Franz Drameh? He’s a British actor that got his start across the pond on television, but made his debut to US audiences in Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter alongside Matt Damon. Adding to his nerd cred, Drameh also starred alongside John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) in the excellent alien invasion film Attack the Block. On top of that, his most recent and notable role was in Tom Cruise’s sci-fi time travel flick Edge of Tomorrow.

Drameh will join Brandon Routh (Arrow‘s Ray Palmer/The Atom), Wentworth Miller (The Flash‘s Leonard Smart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (The Flash‘s Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein), Ciara Renée as Hawkgirl, Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who) as Rip Hunter, and Caity Lotz in her yet-to-be-determined mystery role in the Arrow/Flash spinoff.
