Remember when that Deadpool concept footage leaked? You know, the footage that sent the internet into a frenzy and had countless fans asking “Why won’t they just make this movie already?” As it turns out, 20th Century Fox noticed the hugely positive reaction, and The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Deadpool has been given the greenlight for a February 16, 2016 release date.
Tim Miller will direct the film, and while no official deal exists for Ryan Reynolds to star, it would be hard to picture anyone else in the role. Reynolds provided the voice and motion capture for the concept footage, and played an alternate version of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
No word yet on whether or not the script from Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is still in play, but regardless, here’s hoping Fox is smart enough to make Deadpool as ridiculously over-the-top and violent as it deserves to be.
