Alright, Fox – let’s tap the brakes for a second here, because this is getting ridiculous. Just a few days after word broke that James Mangold would shoot his Wolverine follow-up after X-Men: Apocalypse, the studio has announced the release date for the film – which is fine, but they’ve also penciled in a sequel for Fantastic Four, which hasn’t even begun filming yet, as well as an untitled Marvel film.
The Wolverine sequel is now slated to bow on March 3, 2017, with Fantastic Four 2 following a few months later on July 14. The mystery Marvel film (I’m predicting the long-rumored X-Force, or some kind of crossover between existing franchises) will drop the following year, on July 13, 2018.
Look, I’m glad Fox has a game plan in place, but after the massive backlash against the Fantastic Four casting, perhaps it would be wise to see how the film actually performs before making plans for a follow-up. And with so many other Marvel films already in the pipeline, why even bother mentioning a release date for a project that hasn’t been officially announced yet?
