First Official Look at Superman in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'

Henry Cavill returns as the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and today we get our first look at the big blue boy scout in his full, slightly updated, attire. Feast your eyes on the moody Kryptonian below:

From the looks of the photo, Supes appears to have made a trip to Gotham City unless Metropolis has really gone to the crapper. The suit itself appears to be mostly unchanged with the exception of a slightly more raised (and colorful?) S-shield and subtly modified belt thingy around the waist. Cavill still looks fantasic in the role, but I really hope this brooding rainy shot is just a product of being in Gotham. Part of the fun of the Batman/Superman dynamic is the contrast of light and dark, so hopefully Superman still retains some of that brighter “light” aesthetic in the film.

Zack Snyder also had a lot to say about what to expect in the film over at the artice from USA Today including where we find the Man of Steel himself in Dawn of Justice:

Man of Steel was all about Superman finding his place in the world as both a hero and as a man, ultimately saving the city of Metropolis from certain doom. Dawn of Justice continues to immerse him on Earth by working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent along with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). But it also takes him to new environments such as Gotham City and introduces larger threats, including Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).

Adds some credibility to the idea that the above shot is indeed from Gotham. The article also touches on why Snyder decided it was the right time to bring Batman into the psuedo-Man of Steel sequel:

It ultimately made sense with Dawn of Justice to add Bruce Wayne and his cowled alter ego to the mix. Because of Christopher Nolan’s recent Dark Knight trilogy, “I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie,” Snyder says, “but on the other hand it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in.”

Instead of using several movies to define Affleck’s Batman, Snyder felt the character’s 75-year mythology is so deep in culture now that they can just jump to an older, road-weary take on the Dark Knight. Plus, he says, “it’s cooler to see a crusty old Batman beating the snot out of guys.”

I hope that’s true that they wanted to hold off on using Batman, but it became so organic that they had to introduce him in this story. So what about the other part of DC’s Trinity: Wonder Woman?

Similarly, Snyder also knows that putting the iconic superheroine Wonder Woman on a movie screen is a big deal, too. He says he hasn’t filmed any scenes with Gadot as the Amazonian princess yet, but “she’s working out and getting buff and ripped.”

There’s plenty more tidbits in the article so we highly recommend you give it the full read over at USA Today.com
