It wasn’t that long ago that we saw the first teaser trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey, the film adaptation of the best-selling novel about a young woman (Dakota Johnson) and her relationship with a charismatic and mysterious billionaire (Jamie Dornan). With more than 100 million copies sold, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood came knocking, and the film is poised to heat up the screen when it opens on Valentine’s Day weekend.
A new, full-length trailer for the film debuted earlier this evening, and we’ve got it right here for you to check out.
Despite its status as an undeniable literary phenomenon, Fifty Shades of Grey has come under quite a bit of criticism over what many call an inaccurate portrayal of BDSM relationships, as well as a perceived glorification of domestic abuse, both physical and emotional. We won’t be delving deeper into either of those arguments here, but we are predicting that the film version will suffer from many of the same problems as the source material.
But don’t expect the onscreen sex to be as steamy and explicit as depicted on the page – Dornan has already confirmed that he doesn’t appear nude in the film, much to the dismay of female moviegoers, and the film was forced to undergo reshoots last month because the sex scenes reportedly weren’t passionate enough. “Dakota isn’t coming off sexy enough,” said a source close to the production. “[Her character] needs to be naive, not a dishrag.”
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey opens on February 13, 2015.
