Ezra Miller Cast as 'The Flash' in 2018 Solo Film

The Flash will finally get his day on the big screen, with the news that indie film actor Ezra Miller will don the lightning bolt and red suit for Warner Bros. in 2018. The news came as part of the massive announcement from Warner Bros. today, detailing their huge slate of DC films over the next five years.

So, will Miller be portraying Barry Allen, Wally West or Jay Garrick? Unfortunately, we don’t know – the announcements did not make clear which version of the character we will be seeing.

Currently The Flash is breaking ratings records on CW with its small screen adaptation of Barry Allen’s origin story, spinning off from the network’s other hit DC show, Arrow. But the timing of the solo film certainly seems like a smart choice, considering most TV series don’t have a shelf life of over five seasons – although CW has a history of not letting shows ride off into the sunset, including superhero franchise Smallville that ran for 10 seasons.

Miller is interesting casting for the role, as his resume thus far has consisted of darker, more moody roles in We Need To Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The kid is definitely talented, and I’m curious if the choice is a hint at the direction they want to go with the role or if we’ll still see the same smart-ass heart of the Justice League that fans are familiar with thus far. It’s far too early to speculate on the look of the character, but hopefully Ezra will lose the dark, long emo hair as well.

Either way, I’m sure we’ll get our first look at him in the Justice League film, right?
