In extremely disappointing news, it has been announced that Edgar Wright has decided to depart as director from Marvel’s upcoming film Ant-Man. The talented director has been working on the film on and off for years, and it seemed to be a passion project that was finally coming to fruition.
Marvel already has another director ready to take his place, but they have decided not to reveal who that is at this time. Here’s the official word in a statement from Marvel:
“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film.
“The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”
Wright also has writing credits on the film with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) so it’s unclear if re-writes will also be a factor with his departure. Ant-Man is still scheduled to be a part of Marvel’s Phase Three films, which include Captain America 3 and an undetermined amount of other unannounced films.
