Ryan Reynolds recently shared a deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine on his social media, confirming that Channing Tatum’s Gambit survives the intense battle in the void. This scene also featured characters like Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Dafne Keen’s Laura/X-23.
At the end of the movie, it was unclear which characters made it through the final fight against Cassandra Nova’s (played by Emma Corrin) henchmen. However, fans of Gambit can breathe a sigh of relief as the scene shows Tatum’s Gambit emerging victorious. In the brief clip, Gambit is seen walking past fallen enemies, turning around to face the camera with a grin, confirming his survival.
Though there are no current plans for additional Gambit projects, his survival leaves the door open for the Cajun mutant to potentially appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films or even a standalone feature.
Tatum had originally been cast to play Gambit in a solo film that was scrapped after Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Following Deadpool & Wolverine‘s release, Tatum took to Instagram to express his gratitude to Reynolds for giving him the opportunity to portray the beloved character. In his post, Tatum thanked Reynolds for fighting to keep Gambit in the film, admitting how much the role meant to him.
“Ryan fought for me and Gambit. I owe him forever. Bringing Gambit to life is something I thought I had lost forever,” Tatum wrote. “This movie is pure joy and an absolute masterpiece, and I’m so thankful to be a part of it.”
Reynolds later returned the praise, calling Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit one of the most comic-accurate interpretations of the character. He remarked that Tatum was “born to play Gambit,” a role he had pursued for nearly a decade. Reynolds also hinted at the possibility of seeing more of Gambit in the future, sharing his admiration for both the character and Tatum’s dedication to bringing him to life.
“Gambit is a character that’s still largely unexplored, and Remy LeBeau is grafted to Chan’s soul,” Reynolds said. “Fans want more, and I do too. Watching him in this role just feels right.”
