After languishing for years in development hell, production on the the long-awaited Deadpool movie is moving along at a brisk pace. After some proof of concept footage was leaked online last summer and garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback, Fox officially greeenlit the film in September, with Ryan Reynolds officially signing on shortly after. Now, we know when cameras begin to roll on Deadpool.
According to Global News, the film is set to begin shooting in March, with production based in Reynolds’ hometown of Vancouver. The city has played host to other X-Men films over the years, including the most recent installment, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
While Reynolds has already portrayed the character of Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the onscreen incarnation barely resembled the comic book version of the character, and the Deadpool film promises to stick closer to the source material. Expect plenty of violence, mayhem, and humor, as evidenced in the aforementioned test footage. And it wouldn’t be Deadpool without plenty of fourth wall breaking, so you can bet we’ll get a healthy dose of that, as well.
Tim Miller will direct Deadpool, although it’s unclear if the screenplay from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is still in play. TJ Miller and Ed Skrein are both attached, as well, with Miller providing some additional comic relief, and Skrein rumored as a villain.
Deadpool is slated to hit theaters on February 12, 2016.
