The massive, multi-tiered deal between Marvel and Netflix made huge headlines, and in just a few weeks that relationship will finally begin to bear fruit with the release of Daredevil. The first of four planned series focusing on “street level” superheroes, Daredevil will be available exclusively on Netflix in April, and today the first trailer was finally released.

Everything about this Daredevil trailer looks fantastic. Boardwalk Empire star Charlie Cox seems to have the right kind of charisma to carry this role, and he’s surrounded by a great cast that includes Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Vincent D’Onofrio as The Kingpin – who only appears briefly in the trailer. Seems like they’re saving him for a later reveal, closer to the premiere.
People will likely continue to complain about the costume, but truthfully, this seems far more practical than the bright red jumpsuit and mask from the comics – although it’s worth reminding folks that this version of the costume is firmly grounded in comic book lore.
Daredevil will set the stage for rest of the Marvel offerings on Netflix, with AKA Jessica Jones up next. Casting is well underway for that one, and production is expected to begin shortly, although we aren’t sure if the series will air in 2015. But rest assured, we’ll keep you posted.
Daredevil will be released in its entirety on April 10.
Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, with executive producers Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods), the series also stars Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson.
