Ex-Superman Brandon Routh will be returning to the DC Universe this fall, but this time as Ray Palmer aka The Atom in Season 3 of Arrow. Routh, best known for his role as Clark Kent/Superman in Bryan Singer’s 2006 film Superman Returns, will play the superhero scientist that creates technology to shrink himself down to, well, the size of an atom.
Details are scarce, but this version of Ray Palmer is still the scientist/inventor, but will play “an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and (rumored love interest) Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.”
Routh’s casting is a really fun idea and begs the question of whether we’ll see a full-powered The Atom running around at some point in Season 3 of Arrow. Most don’t blame Routh for the mediocre showing of Superman Returns and we know he can pull off blue tights, but another superhero guest star as a love interest for Felicity does sound a bit repetitive.
Routh joins the ever expanding DC cast of Arrow Season 3 including the already announced Devon Aoki as Katana and the always entertaining character actor Peter Stormare as the new Count Vertigo.
