Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson continues to be one of the biggest box office attractions in Hollywood, but that doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy the occasional small-screen project. This summer, Johnson will appear in Ballers, a new HBO series that examines the life of pro football players after they leave the field behind.
Johnson stars as Spencer Strasmore, a legendary football player who is spending his retirement as a financial planner, mentoring younger players. Earlier today, the first Ballers trailer was released via Johnson’s Instagram account. You can check it out below.
I’m definitely getting a bit of an Entourage vibe here, and while the series is described as a comedy, it will be interesting to see if there are some heavier, more dramatic moments sprinkled in. If nothing else, The Rock’s charisma will be more than enough reason to tune in and give Ballers a chance.
Ballers will premiere June 21 at 10pm, exclusively on HBO.
