After a long and complicated development process that saw director Edgar Wright walking away from the project shortly before shooting was scheduled to begin, Ant-Man is finally in the homestretch and heading for theaters next summer. Rumors are flying that we’ll be getting a look at the Ant-Man trailer next week, but in the meantime, this should help whet your appetite. A new marketing banner for the film has made its way online, featuring the very first look at the costume Corey Stoll will be wearing in his role as Yellowjacket.
Have a look at Corey Stoll’s Yellowjacket costume below, courtesy of the eagle-eyed folks over at Comic Book Movie:
When we chatted with Stoll at Comic-Con, he spoke very excitedly about the suit, saying that “it can do everything that Ant-Man can do, but more. It’s more badass, more militaristic, sleeker… sort of like if Apple had designed a battle suit.” This first look certainly seems to live up to that promise: the Yellowjacket costume appears much more functional, like it was designed with the sole purpose of kicking some ass.
While the release of this image – which Disney and Marvel probably aren’t terribly thrilled with – doesn’t guarantee that we’ll see Yellowjacket in the trailer for the film, it does seem to indicate that he’ll be a major part of the film, and that his antagonistic relationship with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) will be a major focus. Whether or not he’ll also get some screen time with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) remains to be seen.
Ant-Man will be the final film of Marvel’s Phase Two, although it’s hard to say how strongly it will tie into the larger Marvel universe. Along with the aforementioned Rudd, Douglas, and Stoll, the film also stars Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña and Judy Greer. Peyton Reed is in the director’s chair, and Ant-Man will be hitting theaters on July 17, 2015.
