AMC's Preacher Casts Ian Colletti as Arseface

Last night, we got our first bit of official casting news for Preacher, AMC’s adaptation of the cult favorite comic series by Garth Ennis. With Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Ruth Negga confirmed for the role of Tulip O’Hare, Deadline is now reporting that Ian Colletti has landed the role of Eugene Root, aka Arseface.

Here’s how the character is described:

Even with his horribly disfigured face and severe speech impediment, Eugene’s still the nicest kid you’ll ever meet and really looks up to Jesse. Stomach-churningly difficult to look at, Eugene’s the town’s reviled Frankenstein’s monster, but that won’t change his earnest, sweet and pure outlook on life. However, he is troubled by something terrible he’s done in the past — something he fears might have turned God himself against him.

Fans of the comic book source material will know what that “something terrible” is, but we won’t spoil it for you here. And depending on what time period the series takes place in, there’s always the potential this could be changed, anyway.

Dominic Cooper is rumored to be in talks for the leading role of Jesse Custer, a small-town preacher possessed by a creature and on a mission to exact revenge from God, but nothing official has been announced. There’s also no word yet on who AMC is considering for the role of Cassidy, a hard-drinking Irish vampire who accompanies Jesse and Tulip on their journey.

We’re still holding out hope that AMC considers our pal Jacob Pitts for a role in the series. Several fan sites have tapped Pitts as a perfect choice for the lead, but the actor told us in an interview that he might be interested in playing Herr Starr, or Cassidy.

The Preacher adaptation comes from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, based on the popular comic series by Garth Ennis, and is being produced by Sony TV and AMC. Rogen and Goldberg will direct the pilot, with Sam Catlin serving as showrunner. The series is expected to air sometime in late 2015.
