There’s no denying that Taken reignited the career of Liam Neeson, leading to a string of ass-kicking roles and making him a household name for action junkies. On the surface, his role in A Walk Among the Tombstones may seem to be cut from a similar cloth, but look closer.
The film is based on the novel by Lawrence Block, and follows disgraced former police officer Matt Scudder as he agrees to track down the men who kidnapped and murdered the wife of a local drug runner. Apple debuted the first trailer for the film, which you can check out below.
The trailer certainly sets a dark tone, especially with the melancholy rendition of Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun toward the end. This looks like good stuff, and while Neeson’s accent is a bit dodgy, it should be easily overlooked if the film is half as strong as the trailer. A Walk Among the Tombstones opens on September 19.
