It’s time for revenge…again! Keanu Reeves is back in John Wick: Chapter 2, out today on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. If you need a refresher on the film itself here is an excerpt from the theatrical review:
“Keanu Reeves returns as the vengeful assassin for a sequel that ups the ante on bullets, bloodshed and overall mayhem. The action is bigger, the setpieces are crazier, and Reeves is even more charismatic in his new signature role.”
John Wick: Chapter 2 provides a full clip of extra features, but there are a few that stand out from the crowd. Two of the three deleted scenes focus on the villain, Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), providing a deeper understanding of what he is capable of, while the third scene involves John Wick (and honestly should have stayed on the cutting room floor). In March of 2016 a viral video began making the rounds, showing Keanu Reeves impressively speed running through a 3-gun training course. Training John Wick is a particularly entertaining featurette that goes beyond just gun range footage. It is one of the longer special features on the disc, highlighting what Common and Ruby Rose went through as well as Keanu. John Wick: Chapter 2 starts with John trying to get his car back, and Car Fu Ride-Along shows how he uses the car as a weapon and not just a means to get around town. At only five minutes, it’s definitely worth your time to see the amazing stunt work of Jeremy Fry, who was also the stunt driver for the first film.
Chamber Check: Evolution of a Fight Scene takes you through a couple of the major fight scenes, and has enough interesting tidbits to make up for the fact that some of the information and interviews rehash what was said in other special features, and the Dog Wick short film is one of my favorites. Simply put, it depicts what would have happened had the roles been reversed and John Wick’s dog went to avenge his master. Also sure to be a crowd-pleaser is Kill Count, which is exactly as it sounds: a compilation of every person John Wick kills throughout the film. I won’t spoil it, but to give you a clue the runtime is a little over three minutes long – so yeah, the body count is pretty high.
John Wick: Chapter 2 has a unique style to it with splashes of bright neon color making it a perfect pairing for HD. Combined with a plethora of special features, including commentary by Keanu Reeves and Director Chad Stahelski, this is one to add to the collection.
