It’s hard to argue that Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was the breakout hit of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, accomplishing the rare feat of taking home both the Audience Award, and the Grand Jury Prize. The heartwarming and hilarious coming-of-age story is headed to theaters this summer, and the first trailer for the film will give audiences a chance to see what all the fuss is about.
Fox Searchlight released the Me and Earl and the Dying Girl trailer earlier today via YouTube.
I was fortunate enough to see Me and Earl and the Dying Girl last month during a special screening at the Phoenix Film Festival, and without a doubt, it’s the best film that I’ve seen this year. The performances from the three young leads – Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, and RJ Cyler – are absolutely stellar, and the film is lovingly crafted and expertly paced by director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl will hit theaters on June 12. Put it on your calendar right now. You won’t be sorry.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is the uniquely funny, moving story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a high school senior who is trying to blend in anonymously, avoiding deeper relationships as a survival strategy for navigating the social minefield that is teenage life. He even describes his constant companion Earl (RJ Cyler), with whom he makes short film parodies of classic movies, as more of a ‘co-worker’ than a best friend. But when Greg’s mom (Connie Britton) insists he spend time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke) – a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer – he slowly discovers how worthwhile the true bonds of friendship can be.
